mong the most impactful ideologies governing ‘modern’ thought is philosophical naturalism, built  on a foundation of evolutionary beliefs.  A handful of philosophical hybrids mingle their roots in that soil, including nihilism, humanism, the so-called “new age” movement, and existentialism—each of them claiming to best explain the human condition, yet conspicuously lacking substantial support in the realms of logic or empirical data.

Many professing Christians even cobble together a schizophrenic worldview that pretends to combine the evolution myth—infused as it is with unbelief and a logical outcome of meaninglessness—and a superficial understanding of the biblical record.  Far too few people (“Christian” and otherwise) take the time to really think through what they believe, why they believe it, what the logical end of their beliefs might be, or what facts might corroborate—or challenge—it.

Every belief system deserves to undergo critical analysis vis-a-vis the facts
documented in history and empirical science, which means much more
than merely lending an uncritical ear to the critics.

Perhaps we can’t all be “deep thinkers,” but to limit one’s depth of thinking to the plastic wading pool of popular opinion is to spurn objective, absolute truth as even a viable possibility, which has given rise to some of the worst glimpses at human nature in recent history.  If your belief system—your worldview—can’t be lived out in every facet of the real world, if it must be suspended or ignored in the face of certain contrary conduct or opinions you maintain, then it’s not consistent with reality, and it’s not true.  Only historical, biblical, orthodox Christianity—the real thing—can be tested in every realm of human thought and experience without requiring any such compromises or exceptions for its survival.

“The problem with Christianity is not that it has been tried and found wanting, but that it has been found difficult, and left untried.” —G.K. Chesterton

Religions and philosophies abound in the world’s marketplace of worldviews, each of them professing supremacy above the others.  Elements of many of them influence or dominate our personal worldviews, whether we recognize it or not—often with little or no regard for historical or empirical accuracy, or genuine truthfulness.  Is that safe?  Realistic?

Genuine historical, biblical, orthodox Christianity stands alone in many respects—and is treated with the most severe intolerance by contemporary “wisdom” as a consequence.  Most critics of Christianity invoke a popular caricature of the real thing (the “straw man” version being much easier to demolish than the real thing), while the genuine article provides the most coherent, comprehensive (and ultimately satisfying) set of answers to man’s most pressing questions, and has more real-world historical, literary, and empirical corroboration than any other worldview on the menu.

“A lie travels around the world while Truth is putting on her boots.”
— C. Spurgeon

What’s so great about a “biblical worldview”?

Many people fail to recognize how much of our modern world was originally founded on biblical principles, or for that matter, the price Western cultures continue to pay for their abandonment of their Christian roots.  Some even invoke revisionist “history” so as to deny that those roots ever existed.  But such willful ignorance and self-deception only serves to confirm how shallow and tentative a worldview they’re willing to embrace in order to avoid the truth.

The more I’ve studied the evidence of history and science, the more convinced I’ve become that a failure to obey Jesus Christ is invariably and only based on a combination of stubbornness and ignorance, notwithstanding the claims and objections of so many apparently “educated” and “open-minded” folks.

Biblical Christian morals long provided much of the structure around which Western culture developed.  But in recent decades, the popular trend has been towards moral relativism, deliberately shifting away from any recognition of objective, absolute truth, and towards a self-centered mindset—and worldview—in which the satisfaction of one’s selfish desires becomes the basis upon which one’s moral standard is built.  As a necessary means of survival for such a morally superficial cultural trend, “tolerance” and “choice” quickly became buzzwords.

But one doesn’t have to look far to see that the “tolerance” that continues to be preached by those eager to blur the distinction between the moral and the immoral is only “tolerant” of those who share the same worldview:  folks who choose to embrace traditional moral values (e.g., those of authentic, biblical Christianity) are often the targets of derision, caricature, and mockery—anything but the “tolerance” so self-righteously demanded of others by these self-appointed “tolerance police”.  A better illustration of brazen hypocrisy would be hard to find.
